Louis Phaethon Bowling Club

BILL MALLOW... was one of those people who did a lot of work in the background, was responsible for many successes but was rarely in the limelight.

A Scot through and through, he first joined the Aliathon Bowling Club on his arrival in Cyprus before moving to the Louis Phaethon on its formation where he became the first club secretary – a post he held until his sad death in September 2009.

Bill was the conscience of the club.  He helped set up the constitution and made sure the club was run in a proper manner.  He was a massive help to the various captains and will be remembered with great affection.  All clubs need a Bill Mallow and the Louis Phaethon Bowling Club was lucky to have the original item.

JIM ALLISON... has been actively involved in green bowling since moving to Cyprus in 1992 from his native Scotland.

An experienced bowler of over 50 years, he immediately set about forming a club in Cyprus and after some negotiation, the Aliathon Bowling Club was born. He stayed there for a number of years before moving across the road to the Louis Phaethon Bowling Club in 2003 to start up their club where he still remains and is the Head Coach.

His experience and enthusiasm has been called on by the two other clubs on the island - the Aphrodite Bowling Club at Erimi and the Coral Bay Bowling Club - who have also benefited from his experience during the period of their formation.

In addition he has also been responsible for starting the Crazy Spoon Indoor Bowling Club which has helped introduced a number of people to the game of bowls, before moving on to bowling outdoors. Jimmy Allison is certainly the “Mr Bowls of Cyprus”.
